Mark Zuckerberg Takes on Apple: Why Quest 3 Reigns Supreme in the VR Arena

In a recent video, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, passionately asserted that the Quest 3 headset is unequivocally the superior product when compared to Apple's latest offering, the Vision Pro. The Vision Pro gained considerable attention, with celebrities like Diplo and T-Pain flaunting its "passthrough" feature, allowing users to be aware of their surroundings while immersed in the virtual world.




Zuckerberg, however, took the opportunity to highlight what he perceives as drawbacks in the Vision Pro. In particular, he criticized the cost and functionality of Apple's device, emphasizing the superior features of Meta's Quest 3. The passthrough feature, a common element in recent mixed reality headsets, utilizes external cameras to provide users with a live, high-definition video feed of their surroundings, enabling them to wear the headset while moving or exercising.


Expressing frustration, Zuckerberg pointed out that Meta has been developing this technology for nearly a decade, and it is also present in competing products like Sony's PlayStation VR 2. He challenged the assumption that the Vision Pro would be of higher quality simply because it bears the Apple brand and comes with a higher price tag.


Zuckerberg emphasized the Quest 3's advantages, such as the ability to move freely without cumbersome cables, improved comfort with a weight reduction of 120 grams, and a wider field of view. Despite acknowledging the Vision Pro's higher resolution and praising its eye-tracking feature, he argued that the numerous trade-offs Apple had to make for these advantages were surprising.


Social media has witnessed users expressing their dissatisfaction with the Vision Pro, with some returning the product due to what they perceive as unfavorable physical trade-offs. Zuckerberg concluded the video by envisioning the future of mixed reality and openly criticizing "fanboys" who blindly support Apple, asserting that Meta's open model will lead the next generation of computing.


As users navigate their preferences between Meta's Quest 3 and Apple's Vision Pro, the debate surrounding mixed reality headsets intensifies. The clash between the open and closed models in the tech industry, as Zuckerberg contends, adds another layer to the ongoing competition between these two giants.
