Apple's cutting-edge Vision Pro virtual reality headset is now officially available for purchase across all U.S. Apple Store locations and the online store. The launch follows Apple's impressive fiscal first-quarter results, which surpassed both revenue and earnings expectations.
At the helm of this groundbreaking release is Apple CEO Tim Cook, who defended the Vision Pro's starting price of $3,500, stating that it is appropriately set given the device's inherent value. Cook emphasized the forward-looking nature of the technology, referring to it as "tomorrow's technology today."
Customers who preordered the Vision Pro can now either receive their headsets or pick them up at Apple Store locations. Tim Cook marked the occasion by making an appearance at the flagship Fifth Avenue store in New York City, where he spoke with CNBC's Jim Cramer about the device's pricing. Cook highlighted the option for buyers to spread payments over time, making the headset more affordable through a monthly financing plan. He also underscored the device's innovation, boasting about the 5,000 patents associated with it.
During Apple's earnings call, Cook shared that the Vision Pro is gaining traction as an enterprise product, with notable companies such as Walmart, Nike, Vanguard, Stryker, Bloomberg, and SAP already investing in and leveraging the headset for both customers and employees.
Despite a decline in year-over-year sales within Apple's wearables business, which includes the Vision Pro alongside products like the Apple Watch and AirPods, Cook remains optimistic about the device's future. With over 600 apps and games specifically tailored for a "spatial computing" experience, the Vision Pro adds another dimension to Apple's wearables category. While analysts may not anticipate an immediate significant revenue boost from the headset, Cook envisions Apple continuing to straddle both consumer and enterprise markets with this versatile and innovative product.
