Gina Carano, with Elon Musk's Support, Initiates Legal Action Against Disney and Lucasfilm

Gina Carano, the former MMA fighter known for her role as Cara Dune in Disney+'s "The Mandalorian," has filed a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm, seeking $75,000 in damages and asking the court to compel Lucasfilm to recast her character. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is funding the lawsuit and has invited others to join. Carano was terminated in 2021 after posting on Instagram, drawing parallels between the treatment of Jews during the Holocaust and the current political climate for Republicans.

The lawsuit alleges wrongful termination and retaliation, claiming that Carano was fired for expressing her own opinions and resisting pressure from what she describes as an online progressive "bully mob." The court filing asserts that she was treated unfairly compared to male co-stars who made similar posts without facing consequences.

Carano argues that she was a victim of a "bullying smear campaign" aimed at silencing her and destroying her career. In a statement on Elon Musk's platform X, she emphasized the importance of artists not relinquishing their rights as American citizens when employed.

Elon Musk, known for supporting free speech, is backing Carano's legal action, stating that his company is "proud" to support the lawsuit as part of its commitment to protecting free expression. Carano's legal challenge takes on a Star Wars-themed narrative, depicting a galaxy where only one acceptable ideology is tolerated, and those who question or fail to comply are not tolerated.

The lawsuit does not include UTA, the talent agency that dropped Carano, but instead focuses on Disney's alleged role in her termination. Representatives for Disney and Lucasfilm have not yet commented on the lawsuit.
